Open Lab creates, designs, develops and releases commercial games on multiple platforms in multiple languages. Specialized in sport storytelling, we released Football Drama in 2019 and Roller Drama in 2023.

Open Lab is a company established in 2001, currently comprised of 4 partners. Since 2014, after two successful spin-offs (minority languages and project management software), the company has shifted its focus towards developing applied video games, and since 2019, also independent commercial games.

Open Lab designs and produces applied games in the fields of education, health, and research. They collaborate with institutions such as Cambridge University, UNESCO, RAI, Bocconi University, Bicocca University, IULM, Don Gnocchi Research Center, numerous pharmaceutical companies, research centers, and museums, creating designs and applications aimed at innovative forms of learning. Pietro Polsinelli, the CEO of Open Lab, published the book “Giochi da prendere sul serio” in 2016, with a revised second edition in 2018.

In 2019/2020, “Football Drama” was released on Steam mobile and Switch, marking the first commercially produced game entirely developed by Open Lab, introducing a line of narrative sports games. Starting from 2020, Open Lab began developing “Roller Drama,” another sports and narrative game, which was released in early 2023. In the first part of 2022, Open Lab launched “Homer,” an online tool for defining and creating narrative content for games.

In 2023, Open Lab achieved success with its new commercial game project “Becoming Saint,” winning both the “tax credit” for culturally relevant content in games and the Media Europe grant for video games. The planned release on various platforms is set for the first part of 2025.
